Our Mission

Rock For Doc is a 501(c)(3) approved organization with the mission of providing monetary support for mental health services for children and families who have lost a parent or primary caregiver.

Rock For Doc was created in memory of Christopher “Doc” Dougherty, a news cameraman who tragically passed away on December 19, 2023, in a helicopter crash. Chris left behind his wife and two young daughters, along with his family and many friends. The community rallied to support the family with one special event: a concert titled, “Rock For Doc.”

Chris was a self-taught musician who wrote and composed his own music. He enjoyed sharing his music with others but also enjoyed finding new artists and supporting their talents and dreams. Chris had a wide range of musical interests and was a wealth of knowledge about countless bands, musicians, and genres of music.

The original “Rock For Doc” concert was held to benefit Chris’ family in the aftermath of his death. Most of the funds provided to the family paid the out-of-pocket expenses for their girls’ individual therapy sessions, which lasted for about one year. During this time, Chris’ wife Elaine recognized the need for mental health support for families on their grief journey—both adults and especially children. Unfortunately, many families are unable to afford the out-of-pocket, per session expenses required to complete the necessary services or to access resources to guide them through their grief.

Music will be a main theme in the Rock for Doc events throughout the year, with the goal of hosting one large concert per year highlighting local bands and musicians. Chris’ music will continue to fill the air while helping grieving families get the services they need. Funds may also go to local organizations or schools that provide grief services and support for children.
